Question. Are these powder produced components as good as wrought steel components?

Answer. SCANPAC® MMS components are produced from high purity gas atomized powders compacted to full density, which gives properties which are as good or better than wrought, rolled, forged components.

Question. Which grades of steel and alloys can be made?

Answer. By choosing the most suitable process route for SCANPAC® MMS, in principle all types of steel and alloy (for example nickel & cobolt base alloys) can be made. Also titanium and its alloys have been produced.

Question. What product sizes can be made?

Answer. Typical size range for SCANPAC® MMS components is 50 g to 5 kg. The process require a minimum number produced, typically from 5000 pcs. per order and upwards.

Question. Are other full density products produced via powder?

Answer. Yes smaller components, typically with weights under 50 – 100 gram are produced via MIM (Metal Injection Moulding) and bigger components , up to several ton in weight are produced via HIP (Hot Isostatic Pressing). Also these components have properties (mechanical, corrosion, welding etc.) which are as good or better than wrought, rolled or forged components.

Question. Why is the SCANPAC® MMS process a green (environmental friendly) process?

Answer. The SCANPAC® MMS process is a near net shape process i.e. the process consumes less energy and raw material per kilo produced component compared to conventional processes.
